The Colour Thief (May 2018)

A 3D short animation film we've created at UTS Animal Logic Academy. My role was mainly R&D including procedural city generation with Houdini, lookdev of iridescent shaders for rich city and the drones using Katana and Renderman, developing colour trail and muzzle flushes FX using Houidni and Nuke. But the main breakthrough for me was Surfacing. My previous workflow was applying textures over UVs in Photoshop and I felt bottle necked in this area as a beginner CG generalist and was mainly relaying on photos or someone else's textures until I've tried Substance. Substance Painter just made it super simple for me, and Substance Designer is just a natural tool for a programmer like me. Here are my first steps into the world of Substance.
